Hey Omni, I’ve got some really exciting news for you this week. As you know, the response to this Substack has been phenomenal. We are the biggest Substack newsletter dedicated to audio engineering and music production and a ton of new folks are finding us and supporting us here.
In some ways, it feels like this is what Omni Sound Project was always meant to be: an inclusive publication built on genuine community. For four years, we gathered together in the blue light of our Zoom classes and created real, authentic relationships that are continuing to make this community really special.
I’m excited to still be collaborating with our incredible teachers on our Song Recipes and generous partners on fun giveaways. And I’m always delighted to hear from you, whether it’s through comments here or direct emails.
So today, I have another exciting collaboration to announce. Meredith Hobbs Coons will be joining me as a guest editor for the next few months. If you’ve been around awhile, you know Meredith - she’s written about many in the Omni community for the SoundGirls blog and hosts a popular Wilco podcast. Most recently, Meredith has joined me at Tape Op as a contributor…. and interviewed Kim Deal in this month’s issue!!!
Meredith will greatly enhance the quality of the writing here and allow me to focus on working with our beloved sponsors to provide you with more giveaways and challenges!
Our offerings will include:
Weekly Journals
Personal memos from Meredith and me that will continue to weave our community together
The Spotlight
We’ll continue to highlight the work of marginalized folks in music production and audio engineering
Liner Notes
Audio notes breaking down the production of our favorite songs in less than five minutes
Song Recipes
Educational mix techniques, presented in bite-sized steps to create savory sounds
Giveaways!
We’re partnering with our audio pals to bring you exciting freebies, like this one from Highnote!
Plus, we will really be building up our chat space in 2024 so that you have a safe space to connect, collaborate, and ask questions.
Have ideas for our Substack? Drop ‘em in the comments or reply to this email. And please, consider letting $5 automatically and imperceptibly disappear from your bank account each month to support our work!
A Special Thanks to sE Electronics
I want to save some space to give a heartfelt thanks to Toni Scherrenberg at sE Electronics for donating a pair of sE8 condenser mics to an organization I was heavily involved with while a student at Texas A&M. I wasn’t the most enthusiastic undergrad when it came to academics, but I relished my role on the Town Hall committee, who was responsible for live music programming on our campus. I learned so much about event production and promotion from the organization, so I’m really grateful to Toni for offering to provide them with one of the items on their wishlist. Audio folks really are the best folks.
SO excited to be doing this with you! 💖
